seeing as there had been the whole budget thing to contend with, we had decided to fly quatar airways. which, for those not in the know, means a 22 hour travel time! not for the faint-hearted (and by now we were crazy enough i think!)
the parentals and boeties went with us to the airport for some final farewells! not the nicest thing to have to say good-bye, maar nou ja, so's die lewe!
and so we flew off to jo'burg, sometime after 10. sat in the plane, and then off to doha. lovely arrival there at 10ish in the middle of the night. 32 degrees!! ronell happy, thinus not. go into VERY airconditioned building. thinus happy, ronell not...

as can be seen by the picture - by now we should have arrived. enough of plane food and movies on demand. but, we were in for another 8 hours of the same!!
we finally arrived at gatwick the next morning, 8ish SA time. and surprise surprise - there was darling sissie to welcome us!! (which reminds us, we didn't take a picture to capture the moment!). anyways, as i was saying - she ferried us around the whole day. very thankfully! else no idea where we would have landed up! she'd even gone shopping for us!! (thanks heggs!)
and that evening - to mark the moment, we decided to go out for a drink. ONE drink that is... reckon we can only start spending pounds once we start earning pounds!!
oh, and for the record - thinus doesn't like guinness (even the cold version!)
and now, it's 2 days later, and it feels as though we've walked EVERYWHERE! our bodies are hurting! but, it's a good kind! the one where we know we're on an adventure, and we're looking forward to seeing what's around the corner!
and to mark the occasion, we bought a bottle of good cape wine and some strange cantonese meal in a box! oh, and did you know, they have self-service check-outs here! most strange! and most 1st world! (must say, wasn't quite brave enough to try that out just yet...)
and so monday will now bring "normal" life of sorts. but don't worry - we'll keep you updated as to what we're up to!
