Trip to New Forest

So one weekend early in May, it was decided to go away for the weekend. Thinus and 4 girls - again; as though he hadn't learnt his lesson at Easter time! This time, to make it even more of a challenge for the man, he figured that camping would be just fine!

So on the Saturday off treck Thinus, Ronell with the 3 kiddies - Helga, Kim and Rita. We decided on the New Forest to see what the fuss was all about! Having arrived at the camping place in Sixpenny Handley, Kim and I decided that watching, filming and photographing the others was just about the way to go! Followed (of course) by some well deserved wine... We were naturals I tell you! Portable braai, Mrs Balls chutney - and hey presto: braai broodjies!! Only challenge was trying to keep our voices down, as we were having far too much fun for a communal camping ground! This was especially true for the 3 girls who were teaching Kim the finer things of "Helga, mach schnell!" with a terribly german accent. Trust us, you had to be there to appreciate it!

The next morning called for a walk across the green fields! Breathe in the fresh country air! Just made me miss the farm, but hey, we can't have it all now can we!

After a super healthy breakfast (not!) it was time to go and explore the greater New Forest area! This area is quite amazing as they have horses and what-not simply roaming wild! Thinus wanted to see just how tame they were and if he could possibly hitch a ride. Sadly not; but on our onward journey he found another ride that he could have taken home there an then!! We stopped, we stared, we took photos, Thinus drooled... Our journey could not be slowed however, and we carried on to Corfe Castle and the little seaside town of Swanage. Corfe Caslte is now just a ruin, but it still looks amazing if one imagines what it must have been like in that era! Swanage is this lovely little town where we had some scones and clotted cream - super yummy and ultra good for the thighs! Then onto Southhampton! We decided to take a little boat trip to the other side of the harbour to the little town of Hythe. Now, we didn't really know what we were doing, and we didn't really read the times of the boat properly. Suffice to say that as the day was ending, we suddenly found ourselves quite far away from our car and having just missed the last ferry back! Not to worry - let's have a Jack on ice and enjoy the afternoon sunshine! In the end we caught the bus back, so not too worring. And to make it all worthwhile, we had the best view of wathing the Queen Mary 2 and the Oceana sail out of the harbour! Very wow, and now also on our to do list! All in all, a thouroughly enjoyable weekend away!
