So the story goes - as i'm now working for myself, i was able to go home a few weeks before Ronell and could spend some quality times with family and friends in Cape Town. I decided to split the family up and spend some individual time with all of them. There are waaayyy too many photo's to upload here to try and tell the story of what we got up to, but here are a few of the one's that stand out in my mind to try and tell the story.
My Dad had taken a week off work in busy season and i decided to do a little mini road trip with him. It was glorious weather in CT and we started out exploring the sights of the mother city first. We visited the 2 Oceans Aquarium on the first day. That's Table Mountain in the background, but more about that later.
These two Moray Eels were my favorite. They are quite huge and it's amazing how they wriggle through the rocks. I would not want to meet these guys on a reef while diving.
Second favorite was this huge stingray. He's quite docile and there were divers in the tank with him. There are a few smaller one's also, but he's the star of the show. I think he's even more impressive than the ragged tooth sharks that were in there. I'd love to dive with one of these when i have more experience. He's about 2 meters across.
After the aquarium we drove to Simons town via Chapmans peak. It really was a glorious day. This is a one of the lookouts along the way over the peak.
We had lunch at a place on the harbor called Bertha's.
After Simons town we went back to CT to catch the sunset ride up Table Mountain. We had perfect weather with almost no clouds or wind.

For anyone who have not visited Matjiesfontein yet - do yourselves a favor and plan a trip. It can easily be done as a day trip and combined with other attractions in the area. It is like a place stuck back in the 50's/60's and a real treat for people who like old trains,cars or places.
John is the guy who keeps things going. He was born and raised in Matjiesfontein and he runs the show. Keep him supplied with a drink and he'll play the piano all day long. John is also the minister of Matjiesfontein and here he's posing in his church. He does not marry people because he does not approve of gay marriage.
This is the sofa that Cecil John Rhodes liked to sit on.

After Matjiesfontein we headed off to Swellendam and stayed in a nice little garden cottage for the evening.
Very nicely done. I'd like a cottage like this in the mountains one day.
Finally i get to make fire! We miss this type of activity in the UK.
On the way back home from Swellendam we went via Kleinmond and Hermanus. This photo is from the wine tasting room of one of the many wineries in the Hemel and Aarde valley in Hermanus.
I realised that i had not seen some of my school friends in 15 years. I recently made contact with a friend through facebook and we decided to have a braai and invite some old friends for a good time. On the photo - Andre Brink, Miricus Du Toit, Lynnette Brink and Cobus Malan.
Things progressed to shooters quite quickly after that... all the colors of Sambucca was consumed.
The last of the gang at about 2am. I had to kick them out eventually as we had to be up at 5am for the Toy run.
So... after going to sleep at about 03:30am we were up again just after 05:00am to get ready for the annual Toy run. Cobus & me.

We met some of the Ceres gang, Judy, Hugo and Riaan.
There was less bikes than the year before.. maybe the recession had something to do with it?
Brother Hannes hard at work. We had a nice evening out together a the Waterfront having some sushi at CTFM.
Mon and i went to Stodels and got her some plants for the garden. We had a nice lunch at the cafe in the garden.
I managed to get to Ceres for a braai at the Van Niekerks. Gideon, Mariska and little Malherbe.
